FLORALS 2021- THE SPRING MUST-HAVES

(Full on resisting urge to drop a Miranda Priestly reference)…Although florals aren’t so groundbreaking for spring, (oop did it) there’s nothing like the fresh look of gorgeous flowery blossoms after a particularly brutal winter, be it in a box on the windowsill or adorning your True Fashionista spring wardrobe. Let’s take a quick look at what’s hot in florals for 2021, as we more than figuratively emerge from our cocoons, ready to take on the world. Floral fashion trends this spring are leaning toward boho-style prints in pink and pastel colors or dark and understated, reports Eve Dawes for fashion site GlamourandGains.com.

It was noticed at NYFW that our excessive time spent on the couch over the last year has initiated a nice update in spring florals that lean toward a very English-countryside-cottage look, particularly in the (shocker lol) house dress category. Designer Batsheva Hay went all homebody, exploring the idea of bringing back the simple, comfortable house dress updated for 2021. Prioritizing features like breathable fabrics and pockets, her house dresses also incorporate a number of simple floral prints. She’s not the only one to explore the floral house dress, Hill House Home’s Nap Dresses comprise over 50% of their business. True to its name, you can live in it pretty much all day and night (we won’t tell) and YES, it comes in several floral styles.

Should you dare to venture out, the floral print maxi dress is proving to be a hot item for spring as well, with several labels offering their take. A particularly stunning example to look for is the gorgeous ASTR the Label Pandora high slit sundress. Add a subtle yet classy thick gold chain belt at the waist and pair with hip strappy sandals or heels with chain accents and the evening is yours, baby. The WAYF Chelsea Tiered Ruffle Maxi goes to mid-calf and features a beautiful floral motif of burnt orange and browns. Simplee Floral offers a backless floral wrap maxi in several different floral prints. The digital Fashion Week runways were burning up with Fantasy Florals from the likes of Rodarte, whose maxi dress featuring reds on a white background will catch the eye of any Zoom call participant. Anna Sui’s adorable throwback floral max is also quite a charmer, and the tiered pastel floral print dress from Rixo is downright lovely.

If dark is your deal there is even a floral for you, thanks to influencer Lorna Luxe’s black “Eloise” sense and sensibility print bodysuit with puffed sleeves and shirred cuff. The print is straight up black and white to pair with your classic black leather jacket ensemble. You might also like her darker floral print “Cressida” version as well as the black “Clarence” Blenheim floral print mini dress. Speaking of which…

Well yes, you must have your True Fashionista spring floral mini dresses! One suggestion is the Aster Floral mini featuring a lace collar and simple floral pattern on pink background. LoveShackFancy Lorelei serves up a mini with adorable, ruffled skirt. Redvalentino offers up a satin-collar floral brocade version while Dolce&Gabbana’s floral for 2021 is a caped camellia-print silk-organa number and Giambattista Valli goes off-shoulder with a full tulle collar.

It’s your call as to whether to wear your floral blazer out on the town or to your work zoom call, but either way, any of the pieces offered in Pinko’s latest line of floral print blazers will be a winner on your back. Prada is seriously rocking a True Fashionista floral print blazer this year, as is Daniel Rainn and Etro with their floral brocade pattern.

Sigh. We’re still wearing masks. But hey, you can wear a floral pattern for spring, yay! While many designers are continuing to do their part to crank out lovely PPE for free for health care workers, the rest of us can still enjoy the floral offerings from the likes of Marcela or former fashion exe Jay Hersh-Eigler to find spring patterns for facial protection. Christy Dawn’s ecofriendly line of Sage Florals is certainly a True Fashionista option, as is Madewell’s floral print masks complete with filter.
