FASHION WEEK REIMAGINED

Here we are over six months into a pandemic, but the world must go on. The fashion world, like everyone else, knows full well that now more than ever the masses need, crave actually, fresh designs and the runways with which to introduce them, even if it’s mostly the live streaming version. Who better than True Fashionista creative design types to come up with a way for Fashion Month to still somehow happen? All that quarantined creative spark has had to go somewhere, and from what we’ve heard and seen from the initial party, aka New York Fashion Week, the new fashion normal did not disappoint.
MISSING THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY

MISSING THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY

It doesn’t get more depressing than this: Like everything else this crazy year, the 2020 Met Gala was canceled, or as they say, “postponed indefinitely”. The classic flurry of fashion, photographers and A-listers dressed to the True Fashionista nines was a non-entity, as the iconic First Monday in May came and went with eerie silence at New York’s currently shuttered Metropolitan Museum of Art.

LEATHER IS FOREVER

When we conjure up early memories of leather in your wardrobe, maybe it’s the bomber jackets worn by WWII fighter pilots, or that cool black one with the all those zippers your True Fashionista punk rocker cousin had.  Leather has had its place in fashion since our forefathers figured that there are uses for the whole animal. Ancient wall paintings and artifacts dating back to 5000 B.C. indicate the use of leather for clothing purposes, and ancient Greeks developed tanning formulas to preserve their leather. Then the Romans discovered that leather makes for really fantastic, durable footwear.

THE CURRENT STATE OF THE BLAZER

Your first thought about the blazer is no doubt the stuffy power suit staple, seen in boardrooms round the globe and in like, every job interview ever. Good news, blazer fans, this essential True Fashionista wardrobe piece has been trending back into style lately, making an appearance in many a spring 2020 collection. The blazer’s recent renaissance is proving that you can rock a well-tailored jacket not just at the watercooler, but out on the town, with pants, skirt or just about anything.

HISTORY OF RALPH LAUREN

HISTORY OF RALPH LAUREN

Is there a polo shirt or two hanging in your closet? Without a second thought, a vision of those preppy short-sleeved, collared shirts has now popped into your head, whether or not the pony is present in the upper left corner. If you were wearing them in the eighties, yeah that collar was UP, and you very well could have been layering two True Fashionista polos at once. But we digress, the shirt’s the shirt, right? It’s a style all its own, regardless of what’s in the corner. Now take a step back and realize that Ralph Lauren first designed that iconic shirt in 1972. Now a household name, the polo shirt is actually a Polo, capital P.

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2020

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2020

Our world is getting smarter and smarter, and by that we specifically mean our homes. What with Alexa, touchscreens, programmable water faucets and ovens that you can turn on from your phone from halfway around the world, the True Fashionista future is here. It should come as no shock then that interior design trends are looking to be warm, cozy and reflect the home as a place for refuge and coziness. What is so exciting about trend-seeking this year, confirms Aida Sniraite, interior designer and owner of Authentic Interior, is that we will be witnessing how materials, colors, and textures will cohabitate with humans during the years to come as well as adapting it to our needs now.

HISTORY OF HALSTON

HISTORY OF HALSTON

Think Halston and do images of True Fashionista glitterati dancing the night away at Studio 54 fill your mind? Perhaps it’s images the many photos of stars of the day all hanging with the man himself, sporting his trademark sunglasses. Halston dressed and impressed them all for many years, and in the flashy 1970’s scene, his name was synonymous with both high fashion and high society.

HISTORY OF DOLCE AND GABBANA

HISTORY OF DOLCE AND GABBANA

It’s been said that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana possess the True Fashionista ability of being able to mix periods and countries, masculine and feminine looks, fabrics and styles. They are one of the best examples of Italian ready-to-wear that exploded during the mid-1980s. Starting their company with less than $2,000, they are today considered “the most powerful designers of our time” and are among the richest men in Italy.
